We gather the 4th Saturday of most months at Apple Villa in Batavia at 9 AM.  In order to reserve the private dining space and have it set up for our needs, RSVPs are requested for this event.  While there is no absolute deadline to respond, Tim and/or Bruce usually try to call in the final number to the restaurant early Friday morning.  Nonetheless, even if you are past that time, a note to let them know  you are coming helps to make adjustments.  Your RSVP should be an email message to [email protected]

See you there!

End of Summer Luau/Picnic Sunday, September 10

Each September we gather to cookout and celebrate the end of the summer season.  The event is a potluck-style picnic, with Hawiaan Luau themed decorations, and you are encouraged to wear your tropic print shirts, and other garb if you have them, but whatever your wardrobe, you are welcome. Any ALL are welcome.  You need not to have signed up for our mailing list or attended any previous event, you are welcome here.

Please bring something to share.  It can be a salad, appetizer, snack, desert, side dish or whatever.  It helps if you bring serving spoons or whatever your dish requires.   You should also bring your own water or soft drinks. (Alcohol is strictly forbidden in this forest preserve).  If you bring 2 litre bottles of pop, we will assume they are for sharing, unless you clearly label otherwise.

This event was taken over by Denise and Elaine several years ago.  Denise passed away this year, and Elaine is carrying on for at least one more time.  She will providing a charcoal fire IF YOU CHOOSE to bring something you'd like to grill for yourself.  She'll  also provide the decorations, papergoods, plastic dinnerware basic condiments and pay the fee to the forest preserve district.  There will be a cup or can available for you to pitch in a couple dollars to help, if you can.

The date again, is Sunday, September 4.  We will start around noon, (those helping to decorate and set up might arrive around 11 am).  The grill should be hot around 1 pm.  We typically start a casual clean up around 4:30, and depending on how many stay to help, we're gone by 6 PM

The location is the same as the last few years for the Luau:  Jon J Duerr Forest Preserve just south of South Elgin (and maybe 3-4 miles north of St. Charles) on Illinois Route 31, and fronts the west bank of the Mighty Fox River. For your GPS, the address is 35W003 Route 31, South Elgin, IL 60177

Once in the park, follow the entry drive towards the river, and when you pass the trolley station, look for a parking lot to your left.  Once parked, you'll see two picnic shelters, we have reserved the one furthest north (that's left as you face the river)

Friends, new members, people who might one day want to join our mailing list, etc. are welcome.  We do not have any activity for children, but if you bring your own amusement for them, you are welcome to bring your children.

Pets must be on leashes, no alcohol, caution about leaving the bike path for the woods or small trails in the woods, this is the season for poison ivy, poison oak.

There is a bike path that goes farther north or south than you are likely to want to ride and still get some food, and the Trolley Museum in South Elgin is likely to be offering ($) rides on the short track to the museum and back.
